All around the world, students are being given more of an opportunity to learn remotely than ever before. Thanks in part to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic that made working and learning from home commonplace in many institutions and industries that otherwise would not have considered doing so, students are being given the option to learn from home in entirely online or hybrid academic roles. While many students find the opportunity to attend school remotely to be a blessing that helps them succeed both in and out of the classroom, others find it quite challenging. Keep reading to learn more about some of the advantages and disadvantages of remote learning to help determine whether or not online schooling is the best option for you or your child.
Pros:
Freedom
For students of all ages, concentrating during a long day of classes and independent work can be challenging. Having the freedom to take breaks (or take naps) throughout the day can be a big help, as well as having freedom over their schedule in terms of when the school day can begin, when lunch can be eaten, etc.
Independent Learning
Some students move slower or quicker than others when it comes to learning new concepts. Remote schooling gives individuals the opportunity to learn at their own pace and do work independently.
Better Work/Life Balance
Maintaining a strong work/life balance is not just important to professionals like kitchen and bath designers. It is important for students to be able to balance their academic and personal responsibilities and to have time to decompress and enjoy themselves outside of the classroom, which remote learning can help with.
Cons:
New Technology
For younger students or those unfamiliar with the technology required for remote learning, it can be challenging to become familiar with such technology. If students are already struggling in the classroom, adding the learning curve of new technology can make things worse.
Lack of Socialization
For many children, one of the best parts of going to school is having the opportunity to interact with peers and make new friends. Learning remotely takes this opportunity away, and leaves many students feeling isolated or struggling with their mental health as a result of the lack of social opportunities they have during a day of remote learning.
