To the outsider, the ‘digital nomad’ lifestyle can often seem like the epitome of luxury itself. But, whilst those who’ve lived and worked this way can surely agree that it comes with little luxuries such as not being tied down to one location and the lack of a need to fill out a vacation request when travelling to another country, the reality of the lifestyle isn’t always as luxurious as it sounds. Many digital nomads, especially those on the lower end of the income scale or those just starting out, spend their time staying in cheap hostels and putting up with unreliable Wi-Fi connections, which can cause several problems. So, whilst it may not always be possible for every digital nomad, there are many benefits of indulging in a little luxury on the road, even if it’s just one night in a posh hotel.
#1. Relax and Unwind:
As a digital nomad, you’ll find yourself staying in all kinds of places, from hostels to rooms advertised on Airbnb. Many digital nomads, especially those who’ve recently embarked on this journey, tend to find accommodation that’s as cheap as possible to keep costs low and improve their net profit. However, after a while, staying in basic, cheap accommodation or sharing a dorm with others can take its toll. Investing in a couple of nights at some reputable luxury resorts or hotels may set you back a little bit financially, but it’ll give you a great chance to relax and unwind without worrying about things such as the Wi-Fi cutting out or waiting for the shower. In turn, you’ll improve your earnings by being more productive.
#2. Get Some Privacy:
Even the most socially adept people all like their privacy from time to time. If you’ve been sleeping in hostels, then having to share an intimate space with so many other people can quickly get you down. Not only do you have to put up with others who might keep you awake at night by snoring or who insist on keeping the windows open, for example, you’re also constantly worrying about whether you’re doing anything that’s affecting your neighbors in your dorm. Even if you can only afford one night alone, a private room to yourself in a luxury hotel will feel like heaven.
#3. Take Advantage of Facilities:
Admittedly, with the rise of the digital nomad lifestyle, more and more hostels are improving their facilities to suit. You can find plenty of hostels where you’re provided with Wi-Fi throughout, laptop charging ports, desks, and even co-working spaces. However, the downside is that if you’re staying in a hostel with these facilities then you might have to compete with other nomads staying there to be able to use them. Investing in some time in a luxury hotel means that you’ll have a range of facilities on hand to use that can help you with your work. For example, if you’re travelling to meet with a prospective new client, then it’s a good idea to find a hotel that offers professional meeting or conference rooms.
Many digital nomads settle for cheap accommodation to keep costs low. But, don’t be afraid of investing in a little luxury from time to time – it can do you a world of good!
