With online study on the rise, more and more students are living the digital nomad life. Although most digital nomads work as a freelancer or entrepreneur whilst traveling the world, many are also studying for their college degree at the same time. Thanks to online degree programs such as a doctorate of education, online doctoral nursing programs, online MBAs and much more, it’s never been easier to fulfill your dreams of traveling and exploring the world whilst working towards your career goals at the same time. If you’re planning to study and travel at the same time, then we’ve put together some top tips to help you make sure that it works out.
Tip #1. Check Your Program Schedule
Whilst studying for a college degree online offers a much larger amount of flexibility and choice than studying at a traditional school does bear in mind that the flexibility may not always be one hundred percent. For example, if you’re studying for a program that requires you to sit exams, you may be required to be in a certain location to take them. Or, if you’re working towards an MSN to DNP online, then it could be a requirement of your program to gain a certain amount of work experience before graduation. So, before you make any travel plans, ensure that they can be easily fit around any college commitments that you must uphold.
Tip #2. Choose Your Accommodation Wisely
One of the best things about traveling whilst working or studying digitally is that it’s never been easier to find a connection wherever you go. Today, you can find cafes, coffee shops, libraries, and even specially designed co-working spaces that offer free Wi-Fi and a place to charge your laptop and other gadgets so that you can work efficiently wherever you are. However, when choosing your next destination, it’s a good idea to make sure that these amenities are available. Whilst it’s not as common today as it used to be, the last thing that you want is to end up staying somewhere that doesn’t offer an internet connection or has nowhere nearby that you can visit to work. Before you book a hotel or hostel room, make sure that free Wi-Fi is included in the price!
Tip #3. Create a Study Plan
When you are traveling, studying, and working at the same time, it’s not uncommon to feel that you’re spending more of your time staring at your laptop and missing out on all the amazing things that your destination has to offer. For students who are traveling and doing freelance work, it’s important to create a schedule that you can stick to so that you can effectively divide your time between working, studying, and having fun. Before visiting a new destination, draw up a list of all the things that you’d like to see and do before creating an itinerary that allows you to do all of them whilst fitting your work and study in as well.
